OCR in Browser — No Server Required
Runs 100% in your browser. Your files never leave your device.
Use this tool nowNeed to extract text from scanned documents or image-based PDFs? Traditional OCR services require uploading your files to cloud servers where AI processes your content. This means your sensitive documents — medical records, legal contracts, financial statements — are transmitted and stored externally. JuTasks offers browser-based OCR using Tesseract.js, running entirely on your device.

Use this tool nowHow it works
How does this tool work locally?
Our OCR tool uses Tesseract.js, a JavaScript port of the Tesseract OCR engine, compiled to WebAssembly. When you load an image, the OCR engine runs directly in your browser, analyzing the image and extracting text character by character. The entire process happens in your browser's memory.
Why is local processing more secure?
Cloud-based OCR services process your documents on remote servers, often using AI models that may retain data for training. With browser-based OCR, your document never leaves your device. There's no network transmission, no cloud storage.
When should you use this tool?
- Extracting text from scanned contracts
- Converting image-based PDFs to searchable text
- Digitizing printed documents
- Processing sensitive medical or legal documents
- Working offline with scanned materials
Frequently Asked Questions
Why is this a Beta feature?
Browser-based OCR has limitations compared to cloud services. Processing is slower, accuracy varies with image quality. We label it Beta to set appropriate expectations.
What languages are supported?
Currently, the tool supports English and Portuguese text recognition.
Do my files get uploaded for OCR processing?
No. The Tesseract engine runs entirely in your browser using WebAssembly. Your images and documents stay on your device.
How can I get better OCR results?
Use high-resolution images with good contrast. Clear, printed text works best. Handwritten text may produce less accurate results.
